“QAMIS Training to Build Consistency, Transparency and Digital Confidence in HEIs,” Asserts HEA Director – Quality Assurance
The Director – Quality Assurance at the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Dr. Martin Mushumba, has said that the ongoing orientation workshop on the Quality Assurance Management Information System (QAMIS) is designed to do more than introduce a platform, it is intended to build a more efficient, transparent and standards-driven accreditation culture across Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Dr. Mushumba was outlining the purpose and objectives of the five (5)-day training workshop being held at Sandy’s Creation Resort in Chilanga for Quality Assurance and IT officers from 50 HEIs.
The Director – Quality Assurance said that the training is meant to equip participants with the practical competencies required to navigate the online module, conduct digital evaluations of learning programmes and provide structured, evidence-based recommendations within a standardised system aligned to the Zambia Qualifications Framework (ZQF).
Among the core objectives of the training, he said, are strengthening HEIs’ understanding of HEA’s accreditation framework, improving consistency and objectivity in programme evaluation, and facilitating a smooth transition to a fully online accreditation environment.
Dr. Mushumba added that the workshop also carries strategic value for the Authority and the subsector by improving turnaround time for accreditation decisions, strengthening accountability in programme accreditation and enhancing collaboration between HEA and HEIs.
At its heart, he said, the workshop is about ensuring that digitalisation does not merely automate the old process, but improves the quality, transparency and credibility of the entire accreditation journey.
The QAMIS training workshop is being held from Monday, 23rd to Friday, 27th March, 2026, with the system having been developed by the SMART Zambia Institute in collaboration with the HEA development team led by Mr. Francis Kawesha, Senior Information Technology Officer.
