HEA Launches QAMIS Training to Digitise and Transform Accreditation in Higher Education
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has commenced a five (5)-day orientation training workshop for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on its newly developed online accreditation platform, the Quality Assurance Management Information System (QAMIS), marking a decisive shift towards digitising quality assurance in Zambia’s higher education subsector.
The training, being held from Monday, 23rd to Friday, 27th March, 2026, at Sandy’s Creation Resort in Chilanga, has brought together participants from 50 HEIs, specifically targeting Quality Assurance and Information Technology officers, who are the primary end users of the system.
Developed by the SMART Zambia Institute in collaboration with the HEA development team led by Mr. Francis Kawesha, Senior Information Technology Officer, QAMIS represents a significant leap from manual processes to a smarter, faster and more accountable accreditation system.
Officially opening the workshop, HEA Director-General, Professor Kazhila C. Chinsembu, underscored the central role of higher education in national transformation.
“The best economic policy is higher education,” Professor Chinsembu said, adding, “The transformation of higher education is critical to producing the skills needed to drive Zambia’s development agenda of doubling the GDP by the year 2031 and having a 24-hour economy.”
Speaking on the purpose of the training, Dr. Martin Mushumba, Director – Quality Assurance, noted that the workshop is designed to equip HEIs with practical competencies to effectively utilise the system, enhance consistency and objectivity in accreditation, and ensure a smooth transition into a fully digital environment.
With QAMIS, HEA is not merely introducing a system, but setting a new standard, one that strengthens efficiency, enhances transparency and improves traceability in programme accreditation across the sector.
