HEA Holds First-Ever Fieldwork Feedback Review Seminar
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) has introduced a transformative approach to operational review with the launch of its first-ever Fieldwork Feedback Review Seminar (FFRS), held on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025. The seminar, chaired by HEA Director-General Professor Kazhila C. Chinsembu, marked a significant shift towards data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement in service delivery.
The event, which was mandatory for all HEA Management and Staff, provided a platform to analyse findings from all field activities undertaken in the first quarter of 2025. These included inspections, accreditations, and the collection of the annual student levy and student numbers. This initiative reflects a new strategic direction under Professor Chinsembu’s leadership, reinforcing HEA’s commitment to efficiency, accountability, and evidence-based operations.
Professor Chinsembu emphasised that the review of fieldwork results is critical to refining HEA’s processes and enhancing its service delivery to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and stakeholders.
“Over the past three months, Management and Staff have been undertaking fieldwork involving inspections, accreditations, and aspects related to operations such as the collection of the annual student levy and student numbers,” Professor Chinsembu said. “We cannot continue to conduct fieldwork without pausing to review the results of the activities we have been conducting.”
By institutionalising this quarterly review process, HEA is fostering a culture of accountability and data-driven decision-making, ensuring that every field operation contributes to its overarching mission.
“FFRS gives us, as HEA, the opportunity to present the data, analyses, and findings of our activities in the field,” Professor Chinsembu stated, adding, “This will help us to identify areas of concern and improvement.”
In his closing remarks, Professor Chinsembu reinforced the importance of continuous improvement, highlighting the interconnectedness of HEA’s operations.
“I just want to thank all of you for participating in this Fieldwork Feedback Review Seminar, which we shall be having on a quarterly basis,” Professor Chinsembu concluded, continuing, “It is very enlightening to find out what everyone does in the field, as every aspect is important. We are one; we are one unit, and at the end of the day, we are one institution that needs to cross-feed with each other, with intertwined roles whose success depends on each other.”
With the successful introduction of FFRS, HEA is setting a new standard for institutional learning and service excellence. This initiative not only strengthens internal processes but also ensures that the Authority continues to fulfil its mandate of “Ensuring Quality in Higher Education.”
