A High Note of Unity, Reflection and Renewal to End the Year

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) ended the year on a spirited and uplifting note, capturing the essence of teamwork, resilience, and shared purpose that has defined the institution’s journey over the past year.

In moments that symbolised collective effort and camaraderie, Staff came together not just to reflect on the year gone by, but to celebrate the strength found in unity, much like the victorious lift of a colleague onto the shoulders of others after a hard-fought team challenge.

This spirit of togetherness culminated in the HEA 2025 End of Year Staff Meeting, held from 22nd to 23rd December, 2025, at Legacy Resort. The meeting brought together Management and Staff in a relaxed and open setting, creating space for honest engagement, learning, and connection. Key discussions focused on mental health and staff wellbeing, financial management, and the importance of nurturing a supportive organisational culture.

The gathering also provided a moment of quiet reflection as the Authority honoured the memory of a colleague, Mr. Thabani Sakala, whose absence continues to remind HEA of the importance of care, compassion, and looking out for one another.

Speaking during the event, the Director-General, Professor Kazhila C. Chinsembu, emphasised the foundational values that must anchor the Authority as it moves forward.

“When we uphold respect, loyalty, protocol and courtesy, we begin to build a sound organisational culture and a healthy industrial psychology. These values are essential if we are to effectively deliver the mandate of the Higher Education Authority,” he said.

Professor Chinsembu underscored that strong institutions are built not only on systems and structures, but on shared values that guide how people relate, work, and serve together.

Echoing this sentiment, HEA Manager – Human Resources and Administration, Ms. Chileshe G. Mwiko, highlighted the importance of the gathering in strengthening internal cohesion.

“The Director-General called for this very important meeting so that we can better understand our organisational culture and how we relate to one another at work. It is about learning how to function as a team, organising ourselves effectively, and moving forward together to implement our strategic plan,” she said.

The meeting concluded on a high note, with laughter, team-building activities, and moments captured in photographs that reflect a workforce refreshed, connected, and ready for the year ahead.

As HEA closes the year, it does so with renewed energy and a shared commitment to excellence, carrying forward the lessons, bonds, and momentum that will shape an even stronger 2026.
