Chinese Firms to Bridge Gaps in Infrastructure Development in Universities
Three (3) Chinese firms paid a courtesy call on the Higher Education Authority (HEA) as they seek to bridge gaps in the infrastructure development of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Zambia.
The firms, Africa Panorama Investment Group Limited, Beijing Zhuoshi Hengli Education Technology Company Ltd and Beijing Lotus Education Technology Company Ltd, seek to resolve the challenges that HEIs have with hostels by helping them construct hostels through a partnership funding model with the institutions.
The Chinese Delegation was led by Dr. Don Wu, the Managing Director of Panorama Africa Investment Group Limited who stated this wish to partner with not only private universities but public universities as well in order to help complete unfinished buildings in some public universities.
Furthermore, the Delegation expressed interest in setting up two (2) universities in Zambia in areas of medicine and technology in order to introduce improved technology and innovations.
The Delegation was received by HEA Director-General, Professor Kazhila C. Chinsembu, in the Authority’s Boardroom at Engineering House in Lusaka.
The Delegation presented a gift to HEA, which was accepted on behalf of the Authority by Professor Chinsembu. The gift was a calligraphy painting written in Oracle Bone Script. The phrase translates in English as, “Climbing Mount Tai makes everything else in the world seem small.”
The Script conveys the idea that ascending Mount Tai, with its grandeur and majesty, gives one a broader perspective, making the rest of the world appear less significant in comparison, symbolising the gaining of a lofty and far-reaching viewpoint.
Oracle Bone Script is the earliest known form of Chinese writing, used during the Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BCE) for divination and record-keeping.
The Chinese Delegation visited HEA on 13th November, 2024.
