HPCZ Holds Consultative Meeting with HEA and Health HEIs
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) attended a one-day consultative meeting on 2nd February, 2023, hosted by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) at Kenneth Kaunda International Conference Centre (KKICC).
The meeting brought together Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that offer health programmes in Zambia. However, these excluded HEIs that offer health programmes that fall under the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ).
The meeting presented, from the perspective of HPCZ, the repercussions of the Higher Education (Amendment) Act, 2021, on the role of the Council in training health practitioners.
The meeting further had sessions that discussed, amongst others, the training process from the perspective of HPCZ, specifically, admission into a training programme and enrolment numbers; indexing of students, name tags and white-coat ceremonies; progression regulations – practicum sites and logbooks; and, for institutional board of examiners to incorporate HPCZ officials.
HEA presented at the meeting on registration of HEIs, and accreditation of learning programmes.
