HEA Online UNESCO-Sponsored Workshop to Stream Live on Facebook
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) will host a UNESCO-sponsored virtual workshop on capacity building in quality assurance functions on Thursday and Friday, 29th and 30th July, 2021, starting from 08:30hrs on each day.
The workshop, entitled Capacity Building in Quality Assurance Functions: Assessment for Accreditation, Re-Accreditation, Standard Setting, Auditing, Monitoring and Evaluation, will expose participants to quality assurance functions in assessment for accreditation, re-accreditation, standard setting, auditing monitoring and evaluation.
In its quest of “Ensuring Quality Assurance in Higher Education,” HEA will stream the workshop live on its Facebook Page, with people being able to follow the proceedings and ask questions via the Page.
HEA Director General, Prof. Stephen Simukanga, stated that this would allow more people to be trained in quality assurance functions.
“Despite the restrictions that have been brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, it has also allowed HEA to innovate in the way it continues to execute its mandate,” Prof. Simukanga said.
The Director General added that through this innovation of streaming the workshop live on HEA’s Facebook Page with streamers being able to ask questions on that platform that will be relayed to the workshop for comment, HEA is ensuring that no entity is left behind in capacitation for this task.
“Initially the Workshop was meant to only have 80 participants from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and the quality assurance bodies, but we decided to open it up through streaming it on our Facebook Page to ensure that this UNESCO-sponsored capacity building workshop reaches as many people as possible.”
Prof. Simukanga further encouraged HEIs in Zambia to embrace the opportunities that ICTs can give them even as the prevalence of the COVID-19 virus has caused restrictions to the way the HEIs offer higher education in Zambia.
“Even as the Higher Education Authority has adapted to the ‘new normal’ and reality of living and operating during the COVID-19 pandemic, HEIs should also adapt and be able to effectively offer higher education under this ‘new normal’,” he said, adding that HEA will be there step-by-step with the HEIs to ensure the quality of provision of service in the new status quo.
