HAPPENING NOW: Lusaka Apex Graduates 428 Health Professionals, Including 141 Medical Doctors

The Acting Director-General of the Higher Education Authority (HEA), Ms. Chileshe G. Mwiko, is today attending the 16th Graduation Ceremony of Lusaka Apex Medical University, as the private Higher Education Institution (HEI) graduates 428 students across various health disciplines.

Of the 428 graduates, three (3) are graduating with Master’s Degrees, 370 with Bachelor of Science Degrees and 50 with Diplomas. Significantly, the graduating class includes 141 medical doctors under the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programme.

Ms. Mwiko congratulated the graduates on reaching this important milestone, noting that the graduation of health professionals speaks directly to Zambia’s continued need for skilled, ethical and competent human capital in the health sector.

“Today is not only a celebration of academic achievement, but also a reminder of the responsibility that comes with higher education, especially in the health sciences,” Ms. Mwiko said, adding, “These graduates are stepping into a field where knowledge, discipline, compassion and integrity will be required every day in service to the people of Zambia.”

HEA congratulates Lusaka Apex Medical University and all the graduates on this achievement. As the Authority charged with Ensuring Quality in Higher Education, HEA remains committed to supporting the development of a higher education system that produces graduates with the knowledge, skills and values required to contribute meaningfully to national development.

Established and incorporated in 2008, Lusaka Apex Medical University is the first privately owned Zambian medical university. The institution has four (4) registered campuses, all located in Lusaka, namely: Main Campus, Kasama Road, Reg. No.: HEA/035; Charles Lwanga Campus in Woodlands, Reg. No.: HEA/066; Mutandwa Campus on Kasama Road, Reg. No.: HEA/067; and, Olympia Campus on Chainama Road, Reg. No.: HEA/068.

The University is classified at ZQF 9, meaning it is authorised to offer learning programmes up to Master’s degree level. It currently has 20 accredited learning programmes, two (2) of which are at Master’s level.
