HEA to Host Media Training Workshop Under Its Summer School Programme
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) will host a two-day Media Training Workshop for journalists on 10th and 11th February, 2025, at Sarovah Hotel in Lusaka, as part of its commitment to strengthening engagement with the media and promoting accurate reporting on higher education in Zambia.
This workshop forms part of HEA’s Summer School Programme, which aims to capacitate stakeholders in the higher education subsector. The media training is designed to enhance journalists’ understanding of higher education regulation, quality assurance, and policy implementation. Participants will be taken through HEA’s mandate, regulatory processes, and key issues affecting the sector to support informed, contextual, and responsible reporting.
This engagement reflects HEA’s appreciation of the critical role the media plays in informing the public and shaping national discourse on education. Media coverage continues to be instrumental in amplifying awareness on higher education standards, compliance, student protection, and institutional accountability.
The Media Training Workshop is aligned to Strategic Objective No. 2 of HEA Strategic Plan, which focuses on stakeholder engagement. By equipping journalists with sector-specific knowledge, HEA seeks to strengthen collaboration with the media and improve public understanding of higher education governance.
Following the training and issuance of certificates, participating journalists will be encouraged to produce feature stories and related content to further inform the public on higher education matters.
HEA will be engaging media houses and inviting editors to nominate journalists to participate in the workshop, reinforcing the Authority’s commitment to sustained and meaningful media partnerships in advancing quality higher education.
