HEA Congratulates Mrs. Grace Mpiya Mjumphi on Attaining a Master of Science in Risk Management

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Mrs. Grace Mpiya Mjumphi, Manager – Internal Audit, on her remarkable achievement of earning a Master of Science in Risk Management from the University of Lusaka (UNILUS).

This second Master’s Degree, which she has attained in the same year as her Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance, speaks volumes of Mrs. Mjumphi’s extraordinary dedication, discipline, and pursuit of professional excellence. Her achievement underscores HEA’s core values of continuous improvement, resilience, and leadership in higher education.

In an exclusive interview with the Corporate Communications Unit immediately after her graduation this afternoon, Mrs. Mjumphi shared that her motivation for education was deeply influenced by her father.

“My father, Mr. Mighten Kasafya Mpiya, once told me when I was in Grade 4 that if I didn’t know how to till the land with a hoe, I should make sure I know how to hold a pencil or a pen. He was very right,” she said with a smile.

Clarifying how she managed to complete two Master’s programmes in close succession, the Manager – Internal Audit explained that she did not pursue them concurrently.

“I completed the course work for my MBA in Finance and reserved the research for later. I then undertook the course work for the Master of Science in Risk Management. Once I completed that, I picked up my MBA research and graduated,” she said.

Reflecting on what this milestone means to her, Mrs. Mjumphi shared a message of encouragement to others.

“It has proved to me that you don’t have to be an A+ student to progress. I am an average student who has always relied on the power of consistency. Whatever you are working on, just stay consistent with the plan, and you will reach your goal.”

Mrs. Mjumphi further urged women to remain steadfast and resilient in pursuing their dreams, no matter the circumstances.

“To my fellow women, mothers, sisters, and daughters, please know that you can start from where you are. School never ends and shouldn’t be limited by your environment,” she said, adding that her mother, Mrs. Doris Mpiya, inspired her by obtaining all her qualifications while married to her father.

She also expressed heartfelt gratitude to her husband, Mr. Charles Mjumphi, for his unwavering support throughout her academic journey.

Looking ahead, Mrs. Mjumphi said she now plans to pursue certification as an Internal Auditor through the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Zambia and to continue engaging in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to remain relevant in her profession.

“I would be failing in my duties if I didn’t recognise the support of my employers, the Higher Education Authority, its Management, and Staff, for their unwavering support throughout my journey. They have been with me all the way,” she concluded.

HEA once again congratulates Mrs. Grace Mpiya Mjumphi. Her determination, consistency, and commitment are a true inspiration to the entire HEA family.
