UNZALARU Extols HEA for Extending “Olive Branch”

The University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) has commended the Higher Education Authority (HEA) for extending an olive branch to the union by inviting them to meet the Director-General, Professor Kazhila Chinsembu.

This commendation was made by UNZALARU President, Dr. Andrew Phiri, when he led the Union Executive to a meeting with Professor Chinsembu on Friday, 17^th My, 2024, in HEA’s Boardroom.

“Thank you for according us the opportunity of visiting your organisation,” Dr. Phiri said, “It is good that you have extended this olive branch to us in order to discuss the issues that we have been grappling with.”

Dr. Phiri further congratulated Professor Chinsembu on his appointment as Director-General of HEA.

“UNZALARU, first of all, wishes to offer its congratulations to you,” he said, adding, “The position (of Director-General) comes with a lot of responsibilities and expectations.”

The UNZALARU President further stated that, as a union, they were hopeful that with his appointment as Director-General, Professor Chinsembu would help resolve the major problems that they have been facing as a university.

The Director-General clarified that the meeting would not be the last time that the Authority would be engaging with the Union.

Dr. Phiri was accompanied to the meeting by UNZALARU Deputy President, Dr. Tuesday Bwalya; General Secretary, Dr. Kelvin Mambwe; Deputy General Secretary, Ms. Snib Chabala Musonda; Treasurer, Mr. Mazuba Muchindu; and, Committee Members, Ms. Lumbuka Kaunda and Mr. Edward Chibwili.
