Chinsembu, on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026, visited the Copperbelt University (CBU) in Kitwe as part of his ongoing stakeholder engagement with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

During the visit, Professor Chinsembu engaged CBU Management on a number of issues affecting the institution and the higher education subsector.

Among the matters discussed was the payment of student levy for the University’s 26,072 students. CBU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Imasiku Nyambe, pledged that the University would settle the outstanding fees.

The Director-General also held discussions with Professor Bernard Mudenda Hang’ombe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Research and Innovation, as part of the broader engagement on the University’s role in teaching, research and innovation.

Officially established as an independent university in 1987, CBU is Zambia’s second oldest public university and remains one of the country’s leading institutions of higher learning.

The University currently has 179 accredited learning programmes and five recognised campuses. These are Kitwe Riverside campus, Recognition No.: HEA/GRZ-0002; Lusaka campus, Recognition No.: HEA/GRZ-0016; Ndola campus – Michael Chilufya School of Medicine, Recognition No.: HEA/GRZ-020; Mpika campus – Mpika Satellite, Recognition No.: HEA/GRZ-021; and Solwezi campus – Solwezi Satellite, Recognition No.: HEA/GRZ-022.

The visit underscored the Authority’s commitment to direct institutional engagement as a key tool for strengthening coordination, compliance, quality assurance and shared responsibility in the higher education subsector.
