The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has expressed gratitude for the support that UNESCO is providing to countries in the regions in improving Education, Science and Technology and Culture.
Speaking yesterday during the opening ceremony of the on-going two-day UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa (UNESCO-ROSA) Capacity Building Meeting for Quality Assurance in Higher Education in SADC being held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka, Mr. Willys Simfukwe, Technical Advisor, Youth and Development at SADC, conveyed SADC’s sentiments.
“Our collaboration is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding between UNESCO and SADC which covers cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, information, democracy and peace,” Mr. Simfukwe said.
Mr. Simfukwe further said that the UNESCO-ROSA Capacity Building Meeting is very timely as it directly contributes to accelerating the realisation of the ultimate objective of the SADC Protocol on Education and Training, that is having Harmonised, Standardised and Good Quality Education and Training systems in the region.
“We would like thank the Zambian government for hosting this meeting, (including) all Member States, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Quality Assurance Bodies and stakeholders for their commitment to improving quality assurance in higher education in the region,” he said.
